Feel that Crisp Fall Air

Fall is trying really hard to break through here on the Midwest portion of the Mississippi River. The leaves are beginning to change, there is a cold snap in the air, high school football is in full swing. To my three-year old’s dismay, though, is that the leaves simply are not falling fast enough.

We live in a pretty modest split foyer in a quiet little neighborhood. Our yard is not very big, but somehow we ended up with 6 extremely large trees with thousands upon thousands of leaves. When the leaves do eventually fall, they stand roughly two feet in depth. For a three-year-old, it is live a wonderland of fun. One of the core memories (Inside Out reference) for Aiden is raking up the fall leaves and jumping in them over and over. He can’t get enough of it and he just laughs and laughs. I think it is safe to say that Aiden’s favorite time of the year is fall, with the exception of Christmas maybe, but who can blame him, right?

Aiden is just like his parents. My wife and I both love fall and everything that comes with it. The smells, the colors, the cozy sweatshirts, and the feeling of things changing. For me, this is because it is at a point in the year where things have piled up, life has become hectic, and keeping up begins to feel overwhelming. Then fall comes. The fall is like curling up on a cozy couch after a long day of work. It is like opening a good book and escaping into a faraway land or losing yourself in a feel-good movie.

The best part is that it is just the warm-up because right around the corner is Christmas! Truly Aiden’s favorite time of the year…as well as mine. But more on that in the weeks to come!
